I am thrilled to announce I have been taken on as an editor for Cats with Thumbs – quarterly publication showcasing emerging poets and writers or literary fiction. I have dipped my foot into editing and it would seem that people think I know what I am doing and listen to me.
It is the intention of Cats with Thumbs to create opportunities for emerging writers in order to foster their creative growth and provide exposure. I will be providing feedback ( short) to any submissions who are rejected. I am passionate about this aspect as so often when you get a rejection – you just have no idea WHY it was rejected – especially if you had followed the guidelines and rules to the last letter.
There is a plethora of quality anthologies and competitions focused on genre fiction, but very little to encourage emerging literary fiction writers. It is Cats with Thumbs intention to fill that gap. I ‘m pretty excited about this new direction.
They are looking for pieces which engage readers, prompting them to look at events, situations or societal norms and question perceptions – so big hint here – please submit the stuff you thought no-one would look at because its too “…” whatever…
Check out the submission rules – but basically – poems and fiction will be considered if they have careful attention to writing craftsmanship and to the seriousness of the subject matter. Experimental writing which has a valid artistic purpose will be considered, but in all cases, Cats with Thumbs avoids graphic violence or graphic sex scenes, extremism or sensationalism for the sake of it.
Cats with Thumbs publishes an anthology of Short Stories and Poetry three times a year (March, June & October), with a ‘Best Of’ print collection on an annual basis…. and is about to close off for the March edition.. so get your submissions in now!!
It is hoped to be a stepping stone publication for emerging writers and poets who have aspirations of getting work published in places like The Southern Review, Poetry, The Normal School and other literature magazines.
