Lethal Inheritance – a book reveiw

Filed under: Book Review — Annie Evett @ 12:24 am

Friend and fellow author, Tahlia Newland has been super busy and is about to release her next young adults fiction. Lethal Inheritance is  the first in her The Diamond Peak Series.

Its available at the moment on Amazon as an ebook and prospective readers can view a generous proportion of it online.  The official synopsis reads

If last night was real, Ariel should be dead. She’s not, but her mother has disappeared, there are bruises on her neck and the hideous beast in the photo looks frighteningly familiar.

When shadow demons kidnap her mother, Ariel must enter another layer of reality and defeat the demons before they kill her and enslave her mother. She battles treacherous terrain, murderous earth spirits, self-doubt and a dangerous attraction to a young Warrior.

Ariel’s journey challenges her perception, tests her awareness and takes her deep into her heart and mind to confront, and ultimately transcend, her fear and anger.

One avid reader who read the book said, ‘I’ve read a lot of young adult fantasy and I consider this outstanding. It is so exciting and surprising that I didn’t want to put it down. I could never guess what would happen next. It’s a great adventure story bursting with wonder and magic and has an excellent ending.’

You can peek inside it here.

My review:

As with her other books, Tahlia’s characters are honest and upfront, carrying pain which serves them through their journey. Its an easy read, with chapters flowing effortlessly.  She cleverly entwines mysticalism, and modern positive thinking as a powerful message for teenagers struggling with thier identity and place within the world. Although obviously a fantasy story, its themes run deep into any society. the ability to stand up for what is right, to remain ethical in the face of moral dilemmas and to make ones ow decisions about the notion of evil are messages any age group would benefit from reading and exploring.

Fast paced and full of adventure, this story has a wide appeal. Tahlia offers strong characters in a well constructed world. A theme she continues throughout her writing focuses on self respect, self reliance and mental strength.  This book was a delight to read.
